Essential Transformations LLC performs deep tissue massage by concentrating on the deeper layers of the body’s soft tissue to release persistent pain and tension patterns. Slow and methodical strokes are applied to the top layers of affected areas in order to penetrate to deeper muscle layers and achieve relief from chronic pain for our clients.
When to Consider or **Not to Consider a Deep Tissue
Conditions that require deep tissue massage often derive from work related posture problems, sports injuries, or problems that have developed from ongoing stress and tension resulting in persistent Long Term Muscle Pain.
**This might be hard to believe, but Deep Tissue might not be the best way to go, because studies show that it can fatigue the muscles to the point that you will feel weaker, taking days to weeks to recover. The exact scientific reason why is up for debate, but here is my analogy. The muscles are made of of sarcomeres, which is broken down to Myosin, Actin, ADP, ATP, etc.
When the muscle is called upon to contract imagine the Myosin launching a grappling hook to the Actin creating a Crossbridge and the contraction action is done until it is told to release or until it gives out.
So last night I gave you a nice deep tissue massage sinking my elbow with over 100 pounds of force right into the belly of the muscles with nice deep, long strokes. You leave my office feeling like a limp noodle. You wake up the next day a little sore, but not too bad and you are off to the gym. You set up the deadlift bar with 600 pounds, thinking that this will be a nice warm up, but when you go to lift it Mr. Gravity is laughing at you while you moan and groan without any luck. What the heck is happening?
For the sake of simplicity in my analogy I am only going to use the Myosin and Actin.
So the muscle gets a signal from the brain to contract, the Myosin launches a grappling hook to connect with the Actin to build the crossbridge, but the muscle is so stretched out it cannot connect, because the designated area is not there. Then the brain is thinking "Sorry, connection not found!"
Benefits of this Massage Technique Include:
- Release of tension and tightened muscles in affected areas
- Chronic pain relief

A Good Kind of Pain
During a session of deep tissue massage, some clients may experience a level of tenderness that can be termed a “feel good” type of discomfort. This sensation signifies the initial and natural untightening of a muscle or muscle group. Essential Transformations LLC massage therapists always remain aware of a client’s comfort during treatment.
